Deploying attack hoselines

This drill will be to make sure all members can deploy a preconnected hoseline (1 3/4") without dropping the whole load on the ground leading to entanglement and or kinks.

Pack the hose so there is a little slack in the bottom tier where it atteches at the pump coupling.

Step to the side of the pumper and pull the load part way out. (Small loops can really help here)

Give the entire load a 1/2 twist so the nozzle flips to the bottom.

Get the load onto your shoulder.

Face away from the pumper, and begin walking.

The hose will take up tight off the top, back into the matttydale bed. You will be carrying the whole bundle and it will pay out behind you straight with no kinks, pulls or snags.

For the drill, have the firefighters walk into the station up stairs, or in an acquired structure.

If none of that is available to you then use a series of traffic cones and try to have members play out the line within the conses using rights and lefts to simulate corners and or obstructions.

Have a second firefighter get a tool and follow along insuring there are no problems.

Each member should practice this skill until proficient.
