The Emergency Button

For this week 's training topic it is pretty simple. Take your portable radio if you are issued one and if not take one of your department portables (with permission of course).

Using your gloves, feel the radio with your eyes shut...get the landmarks of your radio, feel the front from the back, turn the channel knob if you can, locate the emergency button by feeling down the antenna without looking, call your dispatch beforehand and send them a test to see if you can activate it.

Learn what channels are what and how many "clicks" will it take to get from what channel to what channel.

Learn how to change the battery properly.

Check the antenna to insure it is not loose in any way.

Learn all you can about your portable radio because it may be your life line someday.
