So What Have You Done?

I write each week about a topical issue and as much as I try to portray a negative topic in a positive light, it doesn't always work.

I read a number of trade journals and a variety of editorials and I always try to be a little different an offer possible solutions to the problems I present.

If nothing else these "Straight From The Backstep" pages are designed to be thought provoking and really to make a difference in one person's behavior, that might become contagious and move through a department.

I hope it works.

This week there are no flowery speeches or witty comments to make just a simple question.

What have you done recently that has had a positive effect on your department, co-workers, or community?

I really am not asking what about your chief you hate, or how stupid the local government is in your community, or why your partner can't do his / her job...

I am asking about YOU! What have you done to make your workplace or department better?

If you have to think for more than one minute, maybe it is time that you decided to make a positive difference.

If you think rumors and negativity run through the fire service, try doing one positive thing...it take a little longer to travel around but the impact is much greater and longer lasting.

Which do you want to be remembered for?

As they used to say in an old cereal commercial....."try it you'll like it!"
